12PM -12:50PM Join us for the Canada Day ceremony in the Watch Party zone, hosted by Khelsilem Tl’aḵwasiḵ̓an Sxwchálten & Zara Durrani, which includes welcome speeches by dignitaries, the Canadian anthem performed by Granville Island busker Shawn Bullshields and a giant cake cutting, baked by Granville Island Hotel’s pastry chef (while portions last). Island wide décor and programming include live music, free Vancouver International Jazz Festival performances, live artisan displays, a lobster boil, and merchant activities with Canada flags for everyone. For the kids, there will be free facepainting on site and the Waterpark will be open from 10 AM – 7 PM, with the Kids Market offering special programming all day.
Food and beverage options are in the dozens, including the Lobster Man’s annual Lobster & Corn Cob boil (reserve your Lobster in advance to avoid sell-outs.) Stay into the evening on one of the great waterfront patios across the Island, take in delicious food and drinks from 11 restaurants and bars open late on site, or make it an outdoor picnic with charcuterie from the Public Market with a crisp bottle of wine from Liberty Wine Merchants (“Open Consumption” permitted) and take in a Jazz Festival performance.
