A number of public activities will take place around Granville Island; festivities include a lantern procession\, performances at the Waterpark and Ron Basford Park\, activities and music inside the False Creek Community Centre\, and a labyrinth of light inside Performance Works. SUMMARY:Red Dress Day Installation
DESCRIPTION:This Red Dress Day Project in Ron Basford Park is a collaboration between Chepximiya Siyam/Chief Janice George and Granville Island. Chepximiya has used fabric in a two-dimensional design that evokes missing women\, who should\, in life\, fill all three dimensions of the dress. The installation was done by visual display artist\, Kamila Gougain.  Red Dress Day is a day of to honour and raise awareness and education about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People. The day of acknowledgment was started in 2010 by Indigenous artist Jaime Black to focus on the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women. We thank Chepximiya for her artistry in interpreting the Red Dress Project for Granville Island.

SUMMARY:Teen Shakespeare: The Tempest
DESCRIPTION:Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) on Granville Island is excited to present the return of its annual Teen Shakespeare Program show with a week of live performances of The Tempest\, from July 31 to August 7\, featuring audiences outdoors in Ron Basford Park located next to Performance Works.\nPerformers from ages 14 to 17 have been busy rehearsing hard in anticipation of performing in front of live audiences for the first time since the pandemic\, in their creatively tailored version of Shakespeare’s 17th century shipwrecked tale.\nCTYP and Granville Island are observing all necessary COVID-19 safety protocols and precautions in accordance with BC’s Restart Plan including physical distancing measures\, limited seating outdoors\, minimal contact points\, and no concession sales this year.\nA limited amount of seating is available.
