DESCRIPTION:The Secret Lantern Society returns to Granville Island to host this much loved\, and long-standing seasonal event\, as the annual Winter Solstice Lantern Festival illuminates the longest night of the year. A number of public activities will take place around Granville Island; festivities include a lantern procession\, performances at the Waterpark and Ron Basford Park\, activities and music inside the False Creek Community Centre\, and a labyrinth of light inside Performance Works. Join the Secret Lantern Society as they honour many cultural solstice traditions from around the world.

SUMMARY:30th Annual Solstice Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Secret Lantern Society presents the 30th annual Winter Solstice Celebration! Celebrate the darkest night and the turning of the year by joining one of the 3 processions. At 6pm\, processions at Leg in Boot Square and Vanier Park will make their way to Triangle Square\, where they will join each other and converge in the Water Park. Visit the False Creek Community Centre for paid and free activities\, including lantern-making and live performances. \nMini Gym \n5pm – 6:30pm: pin-prick lantern-making. When you have finished your lantern\, you can head outdoors to meet up with the procession!\n6pm: Headdress-making with ivy and cedar – drop in\, while supplies last\n7pm – 9:30pm: Nature lanterns with flower petals and leaves \nLind Hall \nPerformances with Shaughna Born\, Mistress of Ceremonies \n7pm – 7:15pm: Opening Welcome from Squamish Elder Bob Baker\n7:15pm – 8pm: Spakwus Slolem Dancers from the Squamish Nation\n8pm – 8:30pm: Vancouver Morris Men traditional English folk dances\n8:30pm – 9:30pm: Community Dance with The Carnival Band \nTyee Hall \n6pm – 9:30pm: play with your shadow on the gorgeous image screen by Shadow Sail Theatre with random saxophone by Tim Sars \nLounge \n6pm – 9pm: The Canadian Planetarium.
